FlaVarsity.com Previews St. Augustine Yellow Jackets

From Robert Vojnovski/FlaVarsity.com

The Yellow Jackets finished last year with a convincing undefeated regular season, out scoring their opponents 398 to 53 only to see their season come to an end in by a 1 point defeat to Tampa Jefferson in the 3A State semi finals.

After a great offseason the Yellow Jackets are focused to make another run at the State Playoffs, led by a group of 28 returning seniors, on offense led by running back Timmy Lewis, offensive lineman Devon William and linebacker James Rentz and strong safety Blake Moore on defense.

"I believe our strong senior leadership and experience on the offensive line and at linebacker will really help us this year" head Coach Joey Wiles said, "Having senior leadership is going to be a big key to having a successful season this year. "

On offense, the Yellow Jackets will turn to junior Quarterback Sandon Mims to lead what should be a run heavy offense. "We still have a few questions at receiver but Sandon should have a great season," Wiles said.

Senior receiver Phillip Worthington has looked impressive in this offseason but receiver will still be the biggest question mark on offense leading into this season.

The Yellow Jackets should certainly have no problem running the ball with a great running back combo in seniors Timmy Lewis and Levent Sands and one of the most experienced offensive lines in the state. Expect big seasons out of Devon Williams (6'5 320 lbs. Sr. Tackle) college prospect Kentrell Floyd and center Emilio Lopez ( 6'0 265 lbs. sr.). "Emilio is the anchor of our offensive line, he had a terrific offseason and we look for him to have a big season," Coach Wiles stated.
